Awesome App!
I have been using this app for like a decade. It’s great. To the developer: we’re begging; Please, please, please release an update with dark mode though it’s all we could possibly ask for!
WARNING: I just bought the app, and I can’t add any wikis to it. The interface seems broken. I’ve reached out to the developer over email. Since this is the main purpose of the app, hopefully they fix it.
It won’t let me add Wiktionary no matter how many times I try. And it doesn’t work offline like it says.
I have used this since iPhone 3s like many. It’s on every iOS device I’ve ever owned and is probably my most used app. My one feature request is to be able to view images full screen and zoomable, without having to download images to my photo library first. When returning to the app after some time, it opens on what appears to be a blank white page. Dragging down reveals the search bar. Perhaps the auto-hide should be suppressed when fist opening the app.
I’ve used this app forever, and I recognize updates have slowed through the years, but can we please have dark mode? 🙏🏽
This is the top app I use, but the main feature I use doesn’t work. I click and hold on a link, but nothing happens.
This app was solid but has had recent problems with custom wikis that used to work. Still good for just Wikipedia though.
Your stupid Wikipedia app won't load anymore and my wifi is doing fine! 😡
Since the update to iOS 15.0.2, queuing behavior doesn't seem to work. Holding down on a link doesn't reliably add it to my queue and I'm not sure why. I've been using this app for 10 years so I don't think I've changed how I'm pressing.
I’ve had this Wikipanion installed on every iPhone I’ve ever used, and for years it’s been a daily go-to for easily browsing Wikipedia. The queue feature is simply indispensable, and I’ve read and stored thousands of pages. This unique feature is the main reason I use the app. Literally all that Wikipanion Plus is missing is dark mode. With that, this is a 5-star no-brainer and must-have.
I love this app, and have used it for years. Happy to see an update. I'd love to see a dark mode. Thanks!
I’ve used this app since time immemorial, and it’s one of the most-used apps on my phone. It’s invaluable as a mobile interface for MediaWiki wikis other than Wikipedia (though Wikipedia works well, too). It would really, really be nice to have Dark Mode, though. That’s probably the #1 thing that’s missing. 4 stars because it’s missing Dark Mode. It would be 5 stars if Dark Mode was added.
This app is my fav. Only ONE GIANT MASSIVE EPIC shortcoming. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD MAOE A NIGHT MODE!!!!
This is way faster than the default Wikipedia app. It also makes it easier to move around a page by letting you directly navigate to the categories. Too many apps are bloated and slow today, but this one has stayed as fast as ever. Keep up the great work!
Please update the app! The latest update moved pictures on the opening of pages to the left. Now everything is off center. It looks horrible.
This app works great, except for newer wikis it struggles to parse. It’s a shame, really, because it’s great for the wikis it can handle. Also, category handling isn’t ideal when the listing is complex. Not sure how best to address this.
I have been using this app for years, it’s the best reader out there but PLEASE give us dark mode!
Since Apple has given the choice to change web browsers, I can now no longer open external links. It doesn’t even give me the option of using Firefox instead of Safari, it just refuses to open Safari as “Don’t Open” is the only option I have now when opening links.
This app desperately needs dark mode. It’s vastly superior to anything else out there, save for this one glaring flaw.
The app would be 5* if they had a dark mode that mirrored the kind of dark mode that the iPhone is using. So far I’ve been unable to find any setting to enable this within the app. It’s jarring to go from black screens to suddenly a bright white one in Wikipedia.
I have used this app for a decade. It works great, but clicking links appears to be broken under iOS 13.
Since OS 13 & 13.1.
But now it takes a minute to reload sometimes. It makes me want to just use safari instead. This is on an iPhone X with the latest version of iOS.
I’ve used the app forever and also own the iPad version. But lately it’s been crashing on my iPhone 8 Plus. I’d give it 5 stars if it wasn’t crashing.
This app doesn’t work at all for wikis you self-host. It also hasn’t been updates in over 10 months and the instructions of the website has multiple broken links.
Wikipanion Plus makes searching Wikipedia or other popular wikis easy, providing scoped search for these sites in a native iOS app. I use it all the time. It's definitely worth it to support indie developers like this and get a powerful, easy-to-use app.
Queued browsing and individual control over saved (cached) articles--independant of bookmarks--is why I spent the 5 bucks, why I use this Wikipedia reader the most, and why this app stands alone among the many. These features seem to work perfectly, or nearly so. On the other hand, the UI could be improved. For example, the only access to all bookmark-related controls and screens (and history) is via the button in the search textbox at the top of the page. Also, the "More" option in the settings menu in landscape mode seems pointless. Why not just continue the list of options? Last, a full screen mode/control would be great—like how many iOS Web browsers have.
What happened to wiktionary? No longer loads
I've used this app since my very first iPhone (3GS) days and have used it pretty much every week and has worked great. I have several Wiki sites I subscribe to and this app has been my go-to every time. Just this week, I noticed that Memory Alpha no longer works although other sites I've tried do work (I didn't test all, but just a few). It's forcing me to go a Google search rather than using this app which is annoying. Hopefully it's a simple fix and this app can be my go-to once again soon.
Give us a dark mode.
I used this app nearly every day for years. I finally decided that it has one fatal flaw. When you first load the app, it goes through twenty seconds of loading where it sits there, unresponsive, on the main search screen. When it finally loads, it’s super useful and has great navigability, but I’m so frustrated with the slow load times that I’ve gone with other options.
This is truly an essential app. Hands down my preferred way to browse the sprawling maze of awesome that is wikipedia. Being able to queue up all the interesting links as I read an article, instead of opening tabs I end up ignoring, is fantastic in itself, but it's the offline downloading that's made it a true essential for me. I've spent many plane trips catching up on my offline reading, while queuing up more good articles for the next flight in the trip.
While I *LOVE* my free Wikipanion app now for yearrrrs (I always recommended it to others over that weird Wiki-version app), I don't understand the paid version? I downloaded it thinking that it will be available offline (like my Miriam-Webster Dictionary app)...and it's not working for me offline. Please help. I don't understand. If that is not the purpose, I want a refund.
It works all the time, never crashes. The queue function is addictive, I have so many articles lined up already. Best companion app for Wikipedia.
Needs iCloud sync and ability to upload topics for the 5th star. It is my most used app.
I try others from time to time but always come back to herè
thanks to apps ability to access/switch between Wikipedia and custom Wiki's, I've been getting greater use of Wikiquote. * * * I am constantly on this thing. The added features in this paid version is worth the price. The bookmarking feature is so helpful.
This is a great app. It works well with Wikipedia and all manner of other wikis. It's very easy to create customized wikis, which is why I purchased this app. That said, there's a couple of improvements that could make this better. First is the icon. I use Wikipanion and Wikipanion Plus- one for Wikipedia and one for custom wikis. The problem is that the icons are identical, which means that I'm constantly tapping the wrong one. A simple color change would fix this. The second issue is Wookieepedia- the Star Wars wiki. The text tends to render on top of each other- making it unreadable.
I've had this app installed on every iPhone I've owned for the last 4-5 years. It has been a great way to view Wikipedia & other wikis. However, this latest update has the app crashing and LOSING all of the history, all of the pages that you have visited. Sometimes I start reading an article on a specific topic, and that article leads me to any number of related (or unrelated!) pages. I can then go back through previous pages to the original article. But now that the app is crashing, all the history is wiped. This is not good performance from a $5 app. Until this "crash bug" is corrected, I might as well go back to accessing Wikipedia through a browser. At least my page history would remain intact. I do hope the problem is sorted out soon, because when this app works properly, it completely merits 5 stars. Right now, not so much.
The Good • The Wikipanion app does a better job of displaying the content from Wikipedia than anyone, including Wikipedia itself. • The Plus features are essential to the experience. Offline browsing and the queue make people want to use Wikipedia's popular content. • Full screen reading suggest reading without distraction and using the entire screen. • A design that is so beautiful yet simple. Focus on what you are learning, not on how it's displayed. The Bad • The transition from portrait to landscape moves the displayed content further down the article instead on the current content. Please remove the status bar while reading an article.
Forgets this basic fact. Lame.
I love the app, and use it quite bit. All menu items are in the right places, everything formatted right for the phone. The only issue is gradually it's taking longer and longer to load, I assume some kind of memory leak. So I just reinstall the app, and it becomes fast again. No big deal, easy workaround.
The text is too big for my IPad Air. I can't find a way to adjust it and would like a refund. I bought it about a half hour ago.
There's really not much more to say. This app is beautiful because its interface is so clean and intuitively simple. Queue, iCloud syncing, bookmarks, search history are the best features. I love being able to "Search within Page" to find specific words or phrases in an article. HOWEVER, I wish that feature had a dedicated "button" at the bottom of the screen. It's just beautiful. It is by far my most-utilized non-Apple app. Well worth it!
In the course of this update trying to change wikis resulting in the app crashing. It's quite infuriating. Please fix this.
Wikipanion's interface is simple and sleek. It's sexy. I love the app and it's just a pleasure to use. I would like to have the ability to open multiple tabs.
On iPhone 6+ if I launch the wikipanion app while the phone is in landscape the entire app will be displayed incorrectly. App should support landscape on the 6+
This is my favorite Wikipedia reading app.
Gladly paid for the app, big fan of the free version, too. Looking forward to future updates, please keep up the awesome work!
